Re: ZeroEdge's Stuff: Noir's new alt setup (W.I.P.)
Ok, that's probably the most awesome custom Shinki I've seen. It's inspiration like this that's bad for my wallet.
As a side note, I've noticed 1:144 Gunpla kits seem to go well with Shinkis, but all the ones I've seen mentioned so far are HG. What are your thoughts on NG kits for Shinki customization?

NG? Isn't that those incredibly inflexible beginner kits? DON'T! That is a lot of cutting to do.

I agree with royalpain88, the only things you can use are shields and hand held weapons.

I wouldn't recommend using NG gunpla kits for custom armors, unless you have absolutely no other options... like when I needed to make new leg gear for Kei way back;Takashi wrote:I agree with royalpalin88, the only things you can use are shields and hand held weapons.

I used a 1/144 NG Blitz Gundam, cut up the leg parts, some sanding and with some luck, made them fit into Kei's legs, like snap-on boots.
The main issue of using NG kits is, of course, articulation. NG parts have very limited degrees of movement, and because of this, it was difficult to pose Kei standing up without support. And of course, they don't look as nice as I would have wanted them to, even after painting. HG kits are the way to go for custom armors (at least for me), though there are some other options out there like LBX (cheap, even compared to HG gunpla), AC's, Frame Arms, and even Revoltech parts (kinda expensive).

Ah well. Now I wish more than ever that they made HG of all models; the few I have my eyes on are NG-only. I'll probably just avoid Gunpla for the most part, then.

Armored Core parts? Are they really compatible? I know they are 1/72 scale but I never had a reference to their size when compared to say a Shinki. The only one I've seen is that of a Plamoo CDC... something, something and something vid and even then, can a Shinki hold an AC weapon or shield comfortably?

Thanks!TRANS+CRAZY wrote:Love Noir's new look!
AC's range from 160mm to 220mm (a little larger than shinkis, though the heights might include the shoulder-mounted weaponry...), so quite possible but tbh I haven't seen any shinkis with custom armors from AC's. I have seen one using frame arms and they work just fine. In regards to AC weaponry, just like Kotobukiya MSG's and some gunpla weapons, some modding might be necessary, especially if the grips are too large for shinki hands.royalpain88 wrote:Armored Core parts? I think I'll make the shoulder boosters a permanent part of Noir's armor...

And I like the fact that she can stand up unaided even with that gear on her back.

The black matte paint looks awesome, gives off a little bit of "stealth" fealing

Are those GPO2 boosters? I believe the Straf gained a new attack, firing nukes at it's opponents.
