it's not a US ban, it's Japan Post that's put the ban into effect in response to tightened security on incoming international mail. Anything over a pound won't be accepted, unless you've got a business account with them.
Most web shops, like HLJ and Amiami, should be fine.

Wait... what? I just got a Harmony Grace from HLJ today and a box full of Gurren Lagann Revoltechs from Amiami yesterday. What's this about a ban on stuff from Japan? Do you mean North or South Korea?
