Re: ZeroEdge's Stuff
For now, I use 1:144 gunpla parts for shinki armor, and I only use the arms and legs as other parts need more work, like the chest parts for example.rubixbox wrote:nice. How do you make the Gundam parts into armor?
The arms are simple, just replace the polycaps with putty and you can fit in the shinki's upper arm peg; it's also the same with the hands. Others cases may need you to cut the upper arm in half then fill the void with putty.
The legs are another story; some, like the legs of Gundam 00 are easy (what my Strarf uses) as they have joints at the middle of the thighs; the same, replace the polycap with putty and fit in the shinki's thigh peg.
Others, like the ones on my Espadia (Throne Eins), I had to cut the thigh parts halfway and fill the void with putty (yep, putty is my best friend here XD).
On Lancamento and Howling's cases, I glued pieces of plastic runner inside the gunpla legs to serve as pegs for the shinki's shin slots to lock on to. Seravee's legs have a lot of space inside, so I had to drill a hole on the back and used 'T' shaped runners to lock Lancamento's legs through the holes on her calves. For Howling, I had to tear up and remove a lot of plastic from inside Astray Blue Frame's legs, just to make her legs fit. Then, same as above, I glued plastic runners inside to lock her shins in (I use the term 'lock' meaning the gunpla parts won't move or come loose).

This is a sample pic of a 1:144 Tieren Taozi's leg that Lancamento used before I had it replaced, I just removed the peg on the side, cut out a hole to fit in the shinki's leg, then put some putty inside to fill the void (barely visible here, the putty's on the half where I cut away the hole).
The others, like Howling's shoulder armor, are just connected to the shinki's back parts.
Thus ends ZeroEdge's How-To-Tear-Apart-Gunpla-Parts-and-add-Putty-then-use-them-for-Shinki-Armors-101. Hope all my ranting is informative (or at least understandable). >_<

One more question: what kind of putty do you use?ZeroEdge wrote: Thus ends ZeroEdge's How-To-Tear-Apart-Gunpla-Parts-and-add-Putty-then-use-them-for-Shinki-Armors-101. Hope all my ranting is informative (or at least understandable). >_<

Re: ZeroEdge's Stuff
I use wood repair epoxy putty, the kind that comes in bars that you mix and knead and dries quick (though not the kind commonly used by hobbyists, it works for me). Still, I believe that there are better options out there, but they're kinda hard to find in a country where almost everything hobby-related is imported. Re: ZeroEdge's Stuff
I'm giving up on the giant shield idea, they just won't look good on Howling. So, I've settled on giving her Nadleeh's shield that I painted black.

That, plus a giant blade (from my earlier works) and she looks great, no?

Re: ZeroEdge's Stuff
After a whole week of 12-hour work nights I'm finally free! This is a Sunday, and I thought it will only be a waste to sleep in, so Noir and myself went on a little trip to my favorite hobby shop.

We took a bus to Alabang. I was just little over an hour's ride from home, and Noir enjoyed the passing scenery while sitting on my belt bag. She's wearing Gundam 00's Twin Drive backpack, still unpainted yet.

GreatToysOnline, Alabang branch, inside Festival Mall. Noir got distracted by the tonnes of stuff on display while I made my purchase. Too bad I couldn't get any pics inside...

After that is lunch at Chowking. Beef Chaofan fried rice, crispy siomai and a coke (yum!).

We went home shortly, before my sleep deprivation kicks in... This is a big paper bag. And inside is...

Strike Witches Miyafuji Yoshika Figma!!! Yeah!!! (She's only my second Figma, my first is lucky Star's Kagamiku... Kagami cosplaying Miku.)

What? She's not in the box? Where is -! ...uh...

A surprise attack!!!

Looks like Noir can't get over the fact that someone was able to sneak up on her... >_<
Yoshika is tiny! And adorably cute!!! And I know that she'll make a fine addition to my airforce.

Re: ZeroEdge's Stuff
its good to see your taking Noir on adventures too
mm Chowking , I remember them having tiny portion sizes... I'd rather go to Jollybee as I have not seen it elsewhere other than the Philippines
don't see it in Taiwan , Singapore or Indonesia..

Re: ZeroEdge's Stuff
Obviously, nobody has told Yoshikha that groping a Strarf unit is a bad idea...but she DID just come out of the box.

Re: ZeroEdge's Stuff
Noir already has my spare Gundam 00's legs, and I plan to finish the job by giving her the arms and backpack, and possibly, chest armor.
Here's what I usually do when I mod gunpla parts into shinki armor.

I take the upper part of the arm and cut off the peg that connects it to the shoulder parts, then drill a hole that could fit the shinki's upper arm peg.

I'll fill the voids inside and around with putty, but I'll paint the white armor part first...

For the forearm, I had to remove part of the polycap (the socket part that holds the hand) and cut away a bit of the peg that holds it, being careful not to cut away too much.

This should leave a nice, straight hole for the shinki's hands to fit in. As usual, fill the voids with putty.

Noir was already wearing this during our trip to Alabang.

The backpack itself was unmodded, but I had to remove a lot of plastic from 00's upper torso's back part, then increased the hole's size to fit in a peg (cut from a sprue that held extra shinki connectors).
All that's left for now is painting (flat black spray paint as always). The chest armor might take a little more work so I'll get to that later.
