Personally, I dont see anything wrong with the orange and blue on Merinda. Actually, I think she looks quite charming. It took me a qhile to see where the spoon is on her though, but that's more because it's white on white (or at least pale).

I really likeing Kohiru though, and I think she's the better looking of the two, but that could be because I like girls with dark, long hair.

Colors directly across from one another on the color wheel are called 'complementary colors'. Orange and blue are this. As a rule, in art, they're generally considered to 'go well together'. Whether an individual likes the end result is up to their respective tastes.
