There's lots of sites based around minis/models painting. Considering the size we're working with, the tricks that work for them will work on Shinkis.
For the most part, you want to work with acrylics. These are water soluble so make for easier cleanup and less need of special material then enamels. They come in a wide range of colors and are fairly easy to come by. You also want to get some sort of finish in order to help keep the new paint from getting scratched.
