If you have a couple LEDs and a known-good battery, you could probably swap the contacts around until the LED comes on. I don't think the battery will be powerful enough to short over the diode, and the LED only works one way. But, yes, polarity does matter with LEDs and other diodes. (Diodes act sort of like a one-way valve for electricity, IIRC, but don't quote me on that.)

Ok, I think I got everything now except how to wire everything to the on/off button.

Everything I've gotten online is just a continuous circuit

I think a switch can be placed anywhere in the circuit, but I may be wrong.

That'd be correct, assuming everything's in series (in one loop). The best place to put it would be wired to the battery compartment, but it can go just about anywhere. Assuming you don't run into some weird exotic switch, if everything works now, then installing a switch shouldn't mess anything up.

I'm still trying to wire the LEDs so they work but I've finished all my sculpting and painting work.
I've got to complete the weapons as well.

Here's some head shots, let me know what you guys think.

I even added small details behind the chin and cheeks to look like pipes that would move them in the real full-size robot.

Here's how the eyes will light up. Right now I'm borrowing the test LED kit.

Plans: I wanted it to remain humanoid but give it a 'bulldog' like style with the 'cheeks' and mouth. I also wanted to give it the Red, White, and Blue color scheme of a typical Autobot leader.

The red in the back of the head is actually part of the "battle mask" which the actual character it would flip over the face to the chin and silver panels would extend up and over the back of the head. I havent added the folded and closed panels for 'non-battle mode'

In my actual figure I'm going to make the helmet to go over top the head.

Ultra-Harsh criticism:
You need to invest in some modeling masking tape. There's a lot of paint 'bleed' going on there, and the tape will help keep your lines straight.

Other then that, it looks pretty good.

How is that Harsh? lol. It's actually interesting how the zoom function of my camera picks up on small paint errors I miss when looking at it with my eyes.

Just to be clear. This isnt just for my customs, if anyone else has projects they want help with feel free to post them here.

UGH! I hate to double post but since nobody else has stuff to show off.

Mass Effect Customs: Still in progress
Humans - The heads I ordered are custom casts and haven't arrived yet.
My Female character: I still need to scilpt the Armor on her.
Image
Not much more than a repaint with a swapped head. I did sculpt over the circle hole that all Iron Man figures have. on the chest.
Image

This one is going to be a Turian, I have a lot of sculpting to do.

I also have plans for a Krogan, the Figure I'll be using is an Elite Ranger and doing a lot of Sculpt work.

Before you put that much effert in those customs, you do know that there are a lot of ME figures commiing out, right?
Even if they're not what you want, using those as base for your customs should save you plenty of time.

Series 2 from the SECOND game dont even come out until May, I hate to even guess how ungodly long it will take for anything to come out for the third game.

I,ll have my customs done long before then.
