Much like Ach's "ACH111es," Yda has "YDA-010" written on her left wheel/claw. As such, the name derivation is pretty clear.

Idaten is one of many gods originally taken from Hindu mythology, which explains the naming scheme of her weapons.

This isn't to say that the goddess Ida wasn't also taken into account, but Idaten is the primary derivation of her name.

Idaten IS a pretty pat answer. My problem with it is that with all the sanskrit names they gave her equipment, Idaten's the Japanese name of a mostly Chinese Buddhist deity (Skanda). Possibly they mixed up some names, as there's a different Skanda too? That or I'm looking way to deeply into this.

Idaten's connected through a long chain of whatevers to Hindu gods, it's rather complicated and I'm too lazy to type it all out right now. >_>;;

But he was known to use vajras as his primary weapon, so that's a direct reference there.

"Merenda" may be what we're looking at, since Kohiru means 'snack'.
